Abstract

Saluang Pauah is a traditional Minangkabau musical instrument that grows and develops in Pauh sub district, Padang City. Saluang pauah has six tone holes and produces seven notes. Saluang pauah is used as a medium of entertaiment in various traditional ceremonies such as baralek, akikah, and others. Saluang pauah performances usually performed at night in various ceremonies, the saluang pauah performance only consists of two people, namely tukang saluang pauah and tukang dendang. By the saluang pauah instrument the songs sung are in the form of (kaba) or stories of life experience from the community or the performers themselve. This research aims to find out about the form of saluang pauah performance at wedding ceremonies in the Padang City. Data for this research was collected using qualitative methods by means of observation, interviews, literature study, and collecting several documentation related to the art of saluang pauah, to produce analytical descriptive data based on theories and conceptual opinions from experts. The theory used consist of form, structure, organology and musical aspects. This article consists of five chapter. The first chapter containts an introduction, the second chapter containts a literature review, the third chapter containts research methods, the fourth chapter containts discussion and the fifth chapter consist of closing suggestions.
